Grateful Dead

Image
One of the greatest bands in history has to be the Grateful Dead. They are a very unique band in my opinion because the name itself can sort of throw people off. When I first heard the name of the band, i assumed that they were a heavy metal band or something like that and was almost instantly turned off to it. But after a few listens I realized that they are a fantastic group of musicians, with a huge cult following that I had never really realized before. The band's style of music is what I would describe as "psychedelic bluesy country." They have songs that sound almost reggae; they have songs that sound like classic rock, they have songs that sound bluesy, they have songs that sound like they came straight out of the backwoods of Mississippi... they do it all. In the band's height of popularity, the lead guitarist Jerry Garcia was worshipped by fans and considered him a God. Pretty crazy. Another thing that I think is fascinating about this band is the artwork...

Childish Gambino: The 21st Century Renaissance Man

I've always had an admiration for Leonardo da Vinci; how he had so many talents and had a wide range of knowledge and professions. Widely known as the artist who painted masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, he also was such a pivotal figure in science in mathematics that he wished to be known as a scientist first. A rapper, named Childish Gambino, could be called as the modern age Leonardo da Vinci, comparative to the renaissance man for having many different areas of expertise and talents. Real name Donald Glover, Childish Gambino is widely known as a rapper, actor, comedian, producer, DJ, director, singer and songwriter. Pretty impressive. In my opinion, I think that Glover has created some of the best hip hop/rap songs of this generation, and is certainly one of the best of this era. One of his great works is Because the Internet. Its unfortunate that Glover has announced that he decided to not be as active in music and rapping anymore in order to focus more on his acting and...

Review: Culture Album by Migos

As most of us are probably aware, the rap group, Migos, have quickly taken over the hip hop/rap scene in the past few years. At the beginning of this year, they released their album, Culture, which has become the groups most successful project to date with the hit single "Bad and Boujee". Most people are familiar with that song, but the album as a whole is a strong piece of music that the Migos display. In this album they solidify the idea that they are here to stay - not just one hit wonders like everyone previously called them. Like I said, most people are aware of the Migos due to the sensation of the song "Bad and Boujee", which helped bolster the rap group to international stardom. However, there are songs on the album that are just as good or even better in my opinion, which I personally enjoy. My favorite song on the album has to be "T-Shirt" or "Slippery" with Gucci Mane. These songs really allow Migos member Takeoff to shine, since he ...

The Greatest Bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s

The 60s, 70s and 80s were a great time for music - especially for rock 'n' roll. Some of the most iconic bands came from these eras of music. I will choose my favorite bands from each time period and give reasons as to why. This is my own personal opinion, I'd love to hear yours! Lets start with the 60s. I think that it goes without saying that the Beatles were the greatest band of this era. They are without a doubt the most iconic band to ever exist, and some of the most familiar tunes ever were created by them in this decade. I think they are the greatest from this era due to their album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." This album was created using multi track recordings and methods that were way ahead of its time. It is still looked upon as one of, if not the most influential and greatest albums of all time. I highly recommend a listen! The 70s were also a great time for music. This band was technically started in the 60s, but I consider them a...
