Grateful Dead
One of the greatest bands in history has to be the Grateful Dead. They are a very unique band in my opinion because the name itself can sort of throw people off. When I first heard the name of the band, i assumed that they were a heavy metal band or something like that and was almost instantly turned off to it. But after a few listens I realized that they are a fantastic group of musicians, with a huge cult following that I had never really realized before.
The band's style of music is what I would describe as "psychedelic bluesy country." They have songs that sound almost reggae; they have songs that sound like classic rock, they have songs that sound bluesy, they have songs that sound like they came straight out of the backwoods of Mississippi... they do it all. In the band's height of popularity, the lead guitarist Jerry Garcia was worshipped by fans and considered him a God. Pretty crazy.
Another thing that I think is fascinating about this band is the artwork of the band. Over the years, a number of iconic images have been associated with the Grateful Dead. The one that is most notable is the "Steal your Face" skull, which is a skull with a lightning bolt in its forehead. Another familiar "mascot" in the band are the marching bears, which first appeared on the backside of the album "The History of the Grateful Dead (Bears Choice)." Below are what these images look like.
