The Greatest Bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s
The 60s, 70s and 80s were a great time for music - especially for rock 'n' roll. Some of the most iconic bands came from these eras of music. I will choose my favorite bands from each time period and give reasons as to why. This is my own personal opinion, I'd love to hear yours!
Lets start with the 60s. I think that it goes without saying that the Beatles were the greatest band of this era. They are without a doubt the most iconic band to ever exist, and some of the most familiar tunes ever were created by them in this decade. I think they are the greatest from this era due to their album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." This album was created using multi track recordings and methods that were way ahead of its time. It is still looked upon as one of, if not the most influential and greatest albums of all time. I highly recommend a listen!
The 70s were also a great time for music. This band was technically started in the 60s, but I consider them a 70s band because most of their iconic songs and albums were from the 70s. This band is none other than Led Zeppelin. In my opinion, Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time. The reason I say this is because there isn't a set genre of what their sound is. They have hard rock songs. They have blues songs. They have folk/country style songs. They have songs that sound like it was written in medieval times. There is generally no set genre for this band. They can play anything and they sound good doing it. I cherish their songs and will for the rest of my life.
The last band I'm going to discuss, which was a gargantuan band in the 80s, is Van Halen. Alex and Eddie Van Halen are two brothers who moved to the United States from the Netherlands and would eventually create one of the most well known bands to ever exist. The Van Halen brothers were both classically trained pianists when they were younger, but both were more interested in playing the drums. Eddie worked as a paperboy and saved his money up to buy drums, but his brother Alex would play them more than him, which inspired Eddie to pick up a guitar. Eddie is an iconic guitarist and is considered one of the best to ever live, and inspired a generation of kids to pick up a guitar and learn it, similar to how Jimi Hendrix did. Below is a video of Eddie playing his famous solo "Eruption" which showcases his unique playing style.
